HISTORY
When we started making natural mattresses in 1988 people thought we were mad!
But already then, we were convinced that pure, untreated natural materials such as wool, were the best foundation for good sleep. Fresh from university, with degrees in biology, we were keen to translate our convictions and beliefs regarding health and ecology into values on which our company would be run. At last, we were able to use all of our acquired knowledge and come up with new ideas and concepts for natural mattresses which we were then able to realise in our small manufacturing plant.
Much to our regret, there were no truly natural materials available. This is because during our early years, concepts and values such as sustainability, purity of raw materials, ecological responsibility and purity of natural materials were non-existent or made fun of.
In those days, clean, untreated natural materials were simply not obtainable, contaminated raw materials were the norm. Suppliers were just shaking their heads and told us: ‘Natural materials? Why on earth? It’s not worth it! Nobody does it, nobody cares!”
We did it anyway! But why?
Because we believed we were on the right track. And because we wanted to supply our customers with the most natural and best possible sleep. We were clear, our natural mattresses had to fulfil all orthopaedic requirements and be made from pure and sustainably harvested natural materials – made here in Germany.
It was obvious we needed a quality standard for natural mattresses – but this did not exist. What now? Well, we submitted our materials to be tested under the only standard available. This also happens to be the very strictest: we had our natural mattresses tested under the foodstuff regulations! The challenge: Our natural mattresses were meant to be so pure and natural that they were good enough to eat. Yes, you read this correctly!
And today? Today we are the leading manufacturer of natural mattresses in Germany.
Since we started making natural mattresses in 1988 a lot has happened. We have continuously improved and broadened our product range – from bed frames to pillows. Our natural mattresses don’t only serve our customers in their homes but also in their caravans. Athletes sleep on our mattresses the day before they win Olympic medals. Indeed, they are so taken by their mattress that they always take it with them on their journeys around the world. This way they make sure that they get the best regenerative and restful sleep while travelling.
In brief: Our products stand for natural sleep and are full of sustainable natural materials. They make sure we get up in the morning fully rested and restored. We are convinced: Our evening routine and the quality of our sleep determine how successfully we manage our days.
We at dormiente put much emphasis on long-term relationships and people who accompany us on our path. This is one of the reasons why we have worked with many of our suppliers for decades. We have grown together and will continue to do so in future. We want to be proud of our products. And we want to share this feeling with our families, co-workers and customers. Maybe we can soon share it with you?
