The history behind a healthier sleep
When we began producing natural mattresses in 1988, many considered the idea unconventional. However, even then, we were firmly convinced that pure, untreated natural materials - such as natural wool - provided the ideal foundation for quality sleep. As recent university graduates with degrees in biology, we were eager to translate our knowledge and principles regarding health and ecology into the core values that would shape our company. This vision allowed us to develop innovative concepts for natural mattresses, which we brought to life in our small manufacturing facility.
At the time, sourcing truly natural materials proved to be a significant challenge. Concepts such as sustainability, ecological responsibility, and the purity of raw materials were either dismissed or ridiculed. The industry standard favored treated and contaminated materials, and suppliers were skeptical, questioning our insistence on purity: “Natural materials? Why bother? No one wants them, and no one cares!”
Despite these challenges, we remained steadfast in our commitment. Why?
Because we believed in our mission - to provide customers with the purest, most natural sleep experience possible. From the outset, our goal was clear - our mattresses had to meet all orthopedic requirements while being crafted from sustainably sourced, untainted natural materials, proudly made in Germany.
Committed to Craft
Recognising the need for a rigorous quality standard for natural mattresses, we faced a dilemma - such a standard didn’t exist yet. Our solution? We subjected our materials to testing under the strictest regulatory framework available: food safety standards. Our ambition was clear - our mattresses had to be so pure and natural that, theoretically, they would be safe enough to eat. Yes, you read that correct!
And today? Today we are the leading manufacturer of natural mattresses in Germany. Since we started making natural mattresses in 1988 a lot has happened. We have continuously improved and broadened our product range – from bed frames to pillows, to luxurious silk duvets.
